1. Ming Court Hong Kong Tim Sum

If you are a dim sum lover, you must have heard about the legendary Ming Court Tim Sum in Ipoh. Easily get packed by 9 o’clock in the morning, the restaurant is located at the end corner of a building on Leong Sin Nam Street. Although the place is crowded with patrons coming to have their breakfast, the premise is cosy and air-conditioned. In most cases, the table has to be shared with other patrons and this ‘thap toi’ (sharing tables) tradition, apparently, is kept alive at this place.

The service provided here is tip-top! As soon as you get the table and settle down, you will be immediately swarmed by the friendly aunties carrying trays from all directions.

Black sesame soup and the “Woo Kok” yam puff is highly recommended!

2. Caramel Egg Custard @ Thean Chun

Apart from their Kai Si Hor Fun, Thean Chun is also famous for their Caramel Egg Custard, and rightfully so. The caramel syrup is sugary without being cloying and the custard is extremely smooth. Sweet to the mouth and cooling to the throat, it definitely works to soothe your soul after exploring the Ipoh town under the hot sun.

Besides minced meat, yong tau fu is also served in the Hakka Mee here – almost like a combo meal. One particular yong tau fu that stood out was the fried meat balls that have a hint of salted fish. Their homemade chilli sauce is delicious as well and improves the overall taste of the noodle.
